IMCL speaks to The Age about international students and unscrupulous landlords

International student housing exploitation was recently covered by The Age.

Journalist Melissa Heagney reports that international students are "being taken advantage of by landlords who use students’ lack of knowledge of rental laws to dupe them...".

Issues include:

- misleading rental ads
- unreturned bonds
- unlawful additional fess and charges
- unhealthy and unsafe conditions.

We know this is happening and we're working with the international student community to combat it. It's not right and it's not fair.

One way we're doing this is by spreading our free translated online legal information resource across digital networks so all students know their internatinonal student rights and where to get help.

You can help us raise awareness by going to the website www.imcl.org.au/international-students and sharing the resource across your own social media networks so we can reach everyone in need.

If you or anyone you know is having tenancy problems, please contact us on 9328 1885.
