IMCL CEO Dan Stubbs shares his insights with Our Community about making pro bono relationships work

IMCL has partnered with top-tier law firm Clayton Utz to launch a fortnightly employment law clinic.

Recently, this partnership was profiled in The Australian Pro Bono Centre news. You can read the article on the Pro Bono Centre website.

The partnership was also showcased in the latest quarterly edition of Community Directors Intelligence.

IMCL CEO Dan Stubbs shared his insights into the operation of the IMCL clinic, the value in working together for community and corporate lawyers and his guidance for other firms looking to grow their pro bono practice.

"Plan, implement, then review and revise," he explains.

"Just because the firm has expertise, and we know we have clients with that need, does not mean it just works. We must plan to ensure we each know the limits of our capacity and then review how the program's working and change it to ensure it's meeting its objectives.

"We must continue to come back to whether the collaboration is benefiting vulnerable clients."

Ashika (not her real name), is one of the clients who has been helped through this clinic.

“Without their support, I wouldn’t have been brave enough to take steps against my employer,” she says.

The employment law clinic runs fortnightly on Fridays between 9–11 (by appointment).
